I’m looking forward to seeing all the returning campers, and hearing about all the fun things they did with their time away from camp.
My favorite place to visit in the wilderness has to be Devil Track River on the Superior Hiking Trail. It’s a beautiful rapid river that links up with the SHT near Grand Marais. It’s an excellent place to spend the afternoon or night after a long day of hiking!
My favorite part about the trail would have to be the friendships I’ve created. In the wilderness, there are no “real-life” distractions and you can really get to know someone quickly.
My favorite in-camp program has to be the initiation ceremony. Campers wait in anticipation all session until they have earned their voyageur title. There is a lot of history in the ceremony connected to the camp and the land which I think is very special.
The ability to make an impact on these kids’ lives by teaching them lifelong skills about self-sufficiency and community.
My one piece of advice for new campers would be to come to camp with an open mind. There will be a lot of new things you’ve never tried before that may be scary, but I’d encourage you to be bold. You never know if you like something until you try it!
